| The first professional golfing event at Ebotse Golf and Country Estate has now been completed and judging by the scores received, the golf course is no walk over. Narrow fairways, thick rough and tricky greens made life interesting for the golfers but we are certain everybody enjoyed the test of golf.
The organizing of the event had its various challenges and enabled us to use our initiative to complete several tasks. As a new golf course the timesheet was filled rather quickly and the decision was made to change the starting format from a shotgun start to a two tee start as to accommodate a larger field size.
We were fortunate to have several sponsorship deals including a wonderful deal from TaylorMade which was valued at R15000. Smaller sponsorship deals were also signed and completed the additional funds required for prize money.
The field size did have its complications as both the starting tees ran late and delayed the field. The pace of play was also slow as the difficulty of the course took its toll on the players. However the field was set to complete in time until lightning stopped play. In accordance with the rules of golf, any professional which did not complete their rounds had to return the day after to finish their score. We were able to award the amateurs prizes as we had a ghost scorecard fill in for incomplete holes. Two professionals returned to finish their rounds and the final results were calculated. We have the calculated the final results and prize money for each position.
We thank you for the opportunity in running a PGA Pro Am Event and the experience gained will assist us in our everyday duties.
