Blue Skye, a Cape Town based property development group, recently announced that it will be sponsoring the first Pro-Am series in the Western Cape. Mr Ruan van der Merwe, the CEO of Blue Skye Holdings, said that the Blue Skye Group is proud to be involved with this initiative. He went on to say that there are limited opportunities for club pros to compete in tournaments in South Africa and that Blue Skye wants to help create favorable conditions for developing talent by hosting this regional event. ”We at Blue Skye hope that this sponsored series will serve as a stepping stone for the club professional to prepare for higher levels of competition. If all goes well we hope to make this event a regular fixture on the golfing calendar.”
The “Blue Skye Pro-Am Series” will consist of nine events held at various top golf courses across the Western Cape. A total sponsorship of R175 000 will see teams of 3 amateurs and one club professional competing in a four ball alliance format in eight events. A R5 000 cash prize will be awarded to the winner of the order of merit at the end of the eight events.
The series will then culminate in a two-day, pro-only event held at the prestigious Arabella Golf course close to Hermanus. This event, with a R75 000 purse, will hopefully attract club professionals from all over South Africa and give local fans the opportunity to see the best that our club pros have to offer.
“We wanted to afford local club pros the opportunity to play in a competitive environment with an attractive purse. So many of them don’t get the opportunity to play against the best the province and country has to offer,” responded Shaun de Greeff, marketing manager for Blue Skye. “It is for that reason that we wanted to offer the most lucrative club-pro tournament in the Western Cape. We feel that golf reflects our core values of quality, integrity and opportunity and that, in the same manner that we offer our clients quality products in the property market, we would like to offer the club pros a quality regional competition.”
The first Blue Skye Pro-Am event will tee off just before Valentines day in 2007 (12 February) and promises to be a great event. For more information see www.pgasa.co.za or www.blueskye.co.za |
