Compleat Golfer, organisers and promoters of South Africa's annual golf show has announced a new name, home and 2009 dates.
The South African PGA Golf Show presented by Telkom, will take place from the 20th - 22nd of February 2009 at The Country Club Johannesburg, Woodmead, in conjunction with the Telkom PGA Championship.
The Golf Show, previously know as the Festival of Golf, hosted for the last four years at the Vodacom World of Golf, will now be integrated at the same venue as the Telkom PGA Championship, a move the presenting sponsor of the PGA Golf Show is very happy about.
Braam Wessels, Telkom's sponsorship manager says: "By bringing the Golf Show to the same venue as our golf tournament we will be able to boost the appeal, interest, activity and atmosphere of both events."
Simon Turck, publisher of Compleat Golfer says the name change is a logical progression: "The industry has been calling it the 'golf show' for years now and, as a truly international-quality golf show it makes sense to keep the name simple, and to a name that simply explains the type of event it is. Festival in golfing terms was in many cases confusing as many clubs have 'festival' weeks. This is a golf exhibition where you can test all the very latest golf equipment; see what's on offer in golf fashion, estates, gadgets, services, etc.
Like the PGA Merchandise Show in the USA, our national show has a comprehensive range of golf products and services on show. Unlike the American show though, the South African PGA Golf Show is open to the public and this is extremely exciting. Everyone interested in golf from beginner to pro will enjoy the show and when you're done testing out the equipment or getting a lesson, you can simply stroll down a hill and watch some great professional golf action at one of South Africa's major events the Telkom PGA Championship".
The Show is open to all exhibitors and Turck says this will offer visitors the most comprehensive golf exhibition to date.
Eugene Van Wyk, club manager of The Country Club Johannesburg, Woodmead says, "We're very excited about the addition that the Golf Show brings to the week long activity of the Telkom PGA Championship. The Golf Show offers our members a great golf experience within easy access of their own club and it also affords the club the opportunity to help showcase golf to the public. We are encouraging all golfers, members and non-members to bring their families and come enjoy the fun".
Van Wyk says "there'll be entertainment on Friday evening as well, so be sure to watch the press for further details".
Dennis Bruyns of the PGA of SA said, "This is truly an incredible opportunity for the public to experience the magic of golf. To have two world-class events rolled into one at the same venue is any golfer's dream and as the PGA, we can assure all visitors to the Golf Show and the Telkom PGA Championship of an entertaining and fun-filled time. This is an opportunity to get free lessons from qualified PGA professionals and be entertained by the game of a lifetime - don't miss it!"
